Haworth Tompkins has been working with SIAHAF on a mixed-use project in Oxford, which comprises housing, a community centre, boatyard and public space on a contentious canalside site, has involved an intense design and consultation process involving a number of local groups and stakeholders. The site lies on the western edge of the Jericho conservation area between the Oxford Canal, St. Barnabas Church and two storey workers' housing which is typical for the area.
Our proposals provide a new public square, a community centre with cafe, exhibition space, multi-use halls, meeting rooms, a pre-school facility with outdoor play space, a community boatyard; a small commercial restaurant; affordable residential apartments overlooking the square and private houses along a new stretch canal towpath.
