Haworth Tompkins were shortlisted for the Charleston Barn Project in East Sussex. Charleston is the former home of Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell and is now cared for by the Charleston Trust. The new project aimed to extend the visitor facilities through the restoration and development of a Grade II-listed barn and other buildings around the site. A new extension was proposed to house a multipurpose 200-seat auditorium capable of operating in a number of different modes. The existing barns were to be restored to provide a foyer, cafe, gallery and other enhanced visitor facilities.
