Haworth Tompkins were appointed by The Kings School Canterbury to carry out a feasibility study for the conversion of the Shirley Hall, a 1950s building, into teaching and performance facilities for the drama department. The team also considered the open space between the hall and the Grange, a Victorian building currently being converted to house the new music school. The study was intended to examine the broad feasibility of accommodating the drama department, a new dining hall and the sixth form social space as part of an integrated scheme within and around the Shirley Hall and to explore the ways in which public access, service routes and circulation within the school campus could be improved as a result.
