Haworth Tompkins were commissioned by London South Bank University to carry out a feasibility proposal for the conversion of the Edric Hall. The brief was for a flexible theatre space with a minimum end-on capacity of 200, a drama studio with capacity up to 50, a multi-purpose room/bar, wcs, two small dressing rooms and circulation spaces. The proposed scheme reduced the major structural works, required comparatively little new space division and allowed the majority of the theatre interior to be fabricated off site to streamlined the very demanding building timetable. A number of alternative staging options were made possible with moveable rostra and comfortable, padded bench seating.
