State Cinema
The State Cinema is one of the most undamaged 1930s 'super' cinemas in the country and a major landmark in Grays town centre. The cinema fell into decline after about 40 year's operation and closed in the mid-1980's. Haworth Tompkins are working with Alan Baxters Associates on a feasibility study to find new uses for the building. The vision for the State is that it will be a leisure hub for the town centre of Grays for 18 hours a day and, in particular, a major focus of activity in the evening. It will be a multi-use events venue with cinema at its heart.
