refurbishment of facilities at Kingston University
Haworth Tompkins delivered a series of summer refurbishment projects to upgrade facilities at Kingston University’s Penrhyn Road Campus. This included fitting out a completely new commercial kitchen to serve thousands of students per day, with new ply and stainless steel kiosks forming a Marketplace of individual food outlets, animating the existing canteen.
Six dated front-facing lecture theatres were replaced with new active classroom spaces designed for greater interaction and group work. These AV-enhanced rooms served as pilot spaces to test different ways of teaching and are being monitored through post-occupancy evaluation.
At Holmwood House, a Victorian villa located within the campus grounds was converted for use by the Vice Chancellor and the Senior Leadership Team. Circulation spaces double up as galleries showcasing alumni art pieces to visitors, and provide access to offices, meeting rooms and hotdesk spaces.
