Christopher Laing joined Haworth Tompkins in September 2017 and has been actively involved in various mixed use projects. Prior to this, Chris studied Architecture at Kingston University and Interior Architecture and Design at UCA. He completed his MA at the Royal College of Art where he was nominated for the Spatial Justice Award for his Thesis Project. His research interests include DeafSpace and how to build bridges between Deafness and Architecture. Competition experience includes the AIA UK Student Design Charrette Competition (2014), where Chris’s team achieved third place. He is a British Sign Language user and a co-founder of Signstrokes, an online facility that informs BSL interpreters and Deaf users of BSL architectural terms. This is an open resource for the deaf community in order that architecture can be fully accessible.
